- Comments about the work
- Carin Malmlöf-Forssling is an extremely conscious interpreter of her texts. Herapproach to the three haiku poems is one of exquisite sensitivity. Her tonallanguage matches the pregnancy and rare poetry of the haiku. With a butterflybuoyancy of musical gesture she imparts yet another perspective to happinessat the prospect of the New Year, to wonderment at man and the curiosities ofnature. Somebody has called Carin Malmlöf-Forssling a master of miniature. And in these three pieces, which always have to be played in succession, thereis not one single superfluous note, not a color or nuance but it is treated withthe purest feeling. The composer uses the Japanese yo and kumoijoshi scales. She also plays on the strings of the piano, combining keyboard and stringtones. One point unforeseen by Carin Malmlöf-Forssling in 1979 when shewrote this song for Ilona Maros was that the Song of the Spring Moon was destined to acquire a special significance, the literal meaning of llona being"Daughter ofthe Moon". Text: Ulla-Britt Edberg. From Phono Suecia nr 37 (1988) Translation: Roger Tanner
